Hello Bonnie:
I'm the Willard Evans that worked in Stock Control several years ago. It's a small world!! Malinda Dunman Smith was my GGG grandmother. While doing research on Michael Dunman, I discovered that he was awarded a homestead of 80 acres of land in St. Clair Co. in 1857. The parcel was the North East Quarter of the North West Quarter and the North East Quarter of Section fourteen in Township Twelve of Range Four East in St. Clair Co.
Since he did not appear in the 1860 census, he possibly died after 1857 but before 1860. If he still owned the land when he died his children would have had to sign the deed transferring the land to a new owner. This would identify all his children. Just a suggestion. I had planned to check this out, but I have been stricken with a muscke disease, Inclusion Body Myiositis and am a on a walker and its hards to get around. Also my hands ar so stiff I cannot write, but I can still hunt and peck on a computer.
Hope this suggestion helps..
