Like you I have been on again, off again; but now I'm on. Especially in the early years, the Kimberly and Downs families were quite closely tied. I ask you to forgive me ahead of time if you don't understand what I am about to write, but being a genealogist, you should be able to piece it together. This response has to do with the record you gave concerning - "Administration of the estate of Nathaniel Kimberly granted to Hannah Kimberly, the widow." This is where it will get a bit confusing. Another record from the (New Haven Deeds, 10:122; 17:347) On 29 Aug. 1721, John Lyon and Hannah his wife of the "Colony of Connecticut," sold land which their father Nathaniel Kimberly bought of John Mallory. [I will stop here for a moment] 1. The land bought of John Mallory - John Mallory was the brother of Thomas Mallory, who died in 1690. His widow married Ebenezer Downs - brother of Hannah Downs Kimberly - son of John Downs (immigrant ancestor). 2. John Mallory-the original owner of the land was married to Elizabeth Kimberly who was the sister to Lt. Nathaniel Kimberly. 3. Sarah Kimberly-daughter of Nathaniel Kimberly and sister to Lt. Nathaniel married Samuel Blakeslee in 1684. Their daughter Mary married Samuel Downs, grandson of John Downs (immigrant ancestor). I'll quit here. I don't want to overwhelm you. I can get carried away. Another thing you might find interesting; go online to http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~genepool/nhmap.htm. It is a map showing the home lots of New Haven's first dwellers. Your ancestor's homelot is on there. |
