Walter "Short" Diggs died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 87. Born in Aiken, S.C., he resided in New Brunswick for many years. He retired from Witco Corp. (formerly Richardson Battery Co.), New Brunswick. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his children, Irene McGibbon of Atlanta, Ga., Betsy Jean Diggs Holloway of New Brunswick, Shirley Mass and Pat Carr, both of Alabama, and Barbara Grover of North Carolina; two sons, Benjamin Grover and his wife, Gwen, of Trenton and Ralph Grover and his wife, Arlene, of North Carolina; a sister, Marie "Babe" Russell of Monmouth Junction; 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Sharon Baptist Church, 25 Howard St., New Brunswick. Burial will be at Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery, North Brunswick. Viewing will be from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, 201 Sandford St., New Brunswick.
