Norma, I am posting another Thomas Digges that I have in my files...they all connect in some way.

Thomas Digges, ed. at Oxford; d Aug 24 1595 became one of the most excellent mathematicians of his time, as author, muster-master general of the forces sent to the assistance of the oppressed inhabitants of the Netherlands; buried in the Church of St. Mary, Aldermanbury, London, where a monument was erected to him, afterwards destroyed in the fire of London in 1666; m. Anne, d/o Sir Warham St Leger, and Ursula his wife, d/o George Nevil Lord of Abergavenny. Issue, two sons and two daughters, namely, Sir Dudley, Leonard (1588-1635), the poet, Margaret, w/o Sir Anthony Palmer, and Ursula.

Sir Dudley, b. 1583; educated at University College, Oxford, ambassador to Russia, M.P. and Master of the Bells. In the struggle between privilege and prerogative, he took the part of the people. Constantly interested in Virginia. He married Mary, d/o Sir Thomas Kemp of Chilham. Issue, eight sons and three daughters. Thomas, the eldest son, succeeded to Chilman (m) manor and castle, acquired by his marriage. His fourth son was EDWARD, who settled in VIRGINIA.

This article is part of another article........About 1851, it was LEARNED in Virginia that the English heirs of Sir Dudley Digges were extinct, and the effort was made by the descendants of Governor Edward Digges residing in Virginia to obtain possession of Chilham Castle and his estate. The Maryland Digges, descendants of Col. William Digges, Governor Edward Digges' eldest son, have however the prior title under the law of entail.

In Mathews Cty. have lived for many years numerous representatives of the Digges name who are not placed within the above pedigree. They MAY be descendants of the unknown sons of Gov. Edward Digges. Or they may be OFFSHOOTS from the Maryland Digges. (no wonder this was left unsigned and not dated.) Still looking! Ann
