Hi, I'm new to Dicken research, and it looks like you all have done a lot of work, so maybe you can help me. I'm descended from Amos and Dorcas Dicken through their son Jesse's daughter Priscilla, who married Archibald Perdue/Perdew (1812-1868). Archibald and Priscilla are my g-g-g-grandparents, so I'm also descended from William Perdue/Perdew (d. 1840). I grew up in Bedford County, and I know quite a bit about the Perdews (my maternal grandmother is a Perdew), but all I know about the Dicken family is what I've read in this forum and gathered from the LDS site. Four of William Perdue's 11 children married Dickens, and at least two of Amos Dicken's children married Perdues, so the families are naturally interwined, and I've finally reached the point where I have to research my Dicken roots to understand the Perdews better. I have Amos and Dorcas's children as Stephen, Isaac, Jesse, Jonathan, Amos, Tamor, Mary, Elizabeth, and Ruth, each born at two-year intervals from 1773 to 1789. I've also seen Moses and Dorcas listed as children. Can anyone confirm any of this? I also have William Perdue's sister Mary (b. 1747) marrying Amos Dicken's brother Thomas on 30 Mar 1769 in Prince George's County, MD. That makes sense for Mary, since the Perdues came from Baltimore, but I thought the Dickens came from Virginia, via York Co., PA, to Bedford Co. Did they live in Maryland at one point? Did the Dicken families move along with the Perdues? I have many more questions, and maybe a few answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
