Thank you so much, Annie! There is more info here than I was able to find. Much appreciated!! E.L is my mother's father. I don't know anything about George, unfortunately. I only know he was born in Alabama. I wish I had dates on him...would really help in finding him. You are right. He must have died before 1900. I was trying to guess around the time my grandmother was born. Mary must have become a boarder as soon as he died. Mary raised my mother when Vivian died. Mom called her Grandma Houser. Another thing that might would have helped in my search was if I knew Mary's maiden name. I am hoping that someone on my mom's side has a bible or some sort of records with names and dates...would help me out. I don't even know how to go about finding her maiden name if they don't have anything. I can only guess the place and time she married George, but I feel strongly that it is in Hamilton, Tennessee.
