Seeking information on the family and origins of Cornelius "Neal" DAUGHERTY b. 1785-1786, enum. 1820 in Lenoir with household 000100-30100, enum. 1830 in Lenoir with household 1000001-021001, enum. 1840 in Lenoir with no white family but four free blacks. Enum. 1850 and 1860 in the Beaver Creek area of Jones Co. with wife Elizabeth or "Betsey" b. 1786-1790.

Nearby in 1860 is William H. DAUGHERTY, age 25, who is believed to be his son; this appears to be the same William Hardy DAUGHERTY who was hanged by the Confederates as a deserter on 10 Feb 1864 at Kinston, leaving widow Catherine (Heath) and orphans Nancy and Ivey. The surname is sometimes spelled DAUGHETY or DOITY.
