I am looking for information on my grandfather's mother's family. My grandfather was named John Felix (b. 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island)and his mother was Alice Bans (married a John Felix then a Joe Neves). She was born about 1908 in Rhode Island. Alice's parents were Giraldo and Constancia (daBugo or d'Burgo)daSilva. Somewhere along the way, they changed their surname from daSilva to Bans. Both Girlado and Constancia were from Cape Verde, but came to Rhode Island around 1904. They had several children, all surnamed Bans. Those children were George S. (b. 1911 and served in the army), Arthur, Elsie, Sylvia, Chelsea, and Cecelia. Here is what I know about these children: My grandfather and his wife Janice were living with Alice in 1954, when my mother Starr was born. At that time, Alice's sister Elsie might have been living there as well, or she lived nearby since she appears in my mother's baby book. George was in the army and may have been married to a woman named Stella. He lived in Massachusetts for a time. Sylvia married Duke Andoscia. In the 1950s they were living in Providence, Rhode Island. Cecilia married Eugene Barboza and was living in Proidence, Rhode Island in the 1950s.
