Hjalmer V. Blomberg, 70, of Carroll Place, former fire chief and vice president of the L. O. and E. S. Davis Lumber Co. of Middletown, died Tuesday at Middlesex Memorial Hospital. Born in Cromwell, he resided here most of his life. He was employed by Davis Lumber Co. for the past 53 years and was made vice president of the corporation in 1949. He was chief of the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years and a past president of Middlesex County Fire Chiefs Assn. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. John's Church and of Andrew Lodge Order Vasa.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Josephine Caffrey Blomberg; one son, Francis H. Blomberg of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, C. William Blomberg of Cromwell; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held from the Coughlin Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown, Thursday at 8 a.m. and in St. John's Church, Cromwell, at 9. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
