I am interested in knowledge of the Native Americans who were in and around Brakhamsted. In particular the Mohegans. It appears that the Elwell, Webster, Wilson and Chaugham families may have intermarried with the Mohegans. Isaac Elwell married a lady named Thankful about 1845 and the family story goes she was an "Indian Princess". This story occurs in three different branches of the current descendants. It may not relate to Thankful but does somehow relate to Joseph Elwell's family. Joseph Elwell was the father of John, Joseph Jr and Isaac Elwell. Joseph elwell was in Barkhamsted 1820-1870.
