It is a puzzle, one I have been working on with no results off and on for several years. I am convinced he is from the Francios Barteau line, but cannot make the connection. I have war records on Reuben w/info on some of his children and in it he mentions he had other family in the area. But who?? I have isolated facts but they lead nowhere. I think Debi is more on the right track and I think somewhere on the "tree" I have is the answer, but I haven't found it. Don't know where you are, but when I was in NYC a few years back I went to the main public library there (because Giles first child was born in NY state and I believe that many of the Barto's lived on LOng Island. I found this "family tree" on the family that is about the best I've seen with a lot of names. If you could find that you might like to look for it . . .prepared by Alphonso Vale Barto in Broxville, NY in 1945.
