Ardith, I have just discovered that my gggrandfather--Curtis W. Rich (b. 1822 in CT) a music instructor and widower in 1857 married Eliza (Patchen?)Gregory, age 24, resident of Bridgeport and widow--all this from marriage vitals of Newark, NJ. Shortly after Curtis changed occupations to saddlemaker in NY city. I suspect that the widow Gregory may have been left with her husband's saddlery business. Do we have a connection? Curtis died in NY in 1876, but is buried in Mt. Grove Cem, Bridgeport, CT next to first wife Sarah Mallett Rich. Curtis had several children from both marriages. I haven't found any children from Eliza's first marriage to Gregory (I don' know 1st name of 1st spouse)Let me know if we have a match...1870 NY census shows Curtis & Eliza, he is working as saddlemaker
