I've put a few postings here about the actress Mary Milakovich Pickard or Picard who was born in Youngstown, OH 15 Aug 1903 and died in Los Angeles, CA 21 Jul 1984. She is listed sometimes as a "Croatian actress" but she seems to have lived her whole life in the US. Her parents were Croation.
I now know that she used the name Mary CARNEY in Hollywood and New York (Broadway), presumably a stage name. The name PICKARD was that of her husband Charles PICKARD or PICARD, who was in the "television department" of General Electric in 1940. That year they were living in Schenectady, NY.
As Mary Carney she appeared in minor roles in several Broadway musicals. She made one movie, "Law for Tombstone," in 1937.
Mary's parents were Eli MILAKOVICH (1866-1930) and Barbara LUBANOVICH (1882-1940), both born in Croatia and died in Youngstown.
I can't find Charles and Mary as a couple in any census or city directory. I only know Charles from newspaper articles about Mary.
In 1952 she published an article in "Zajednicar," the magazine of the Croatian Federal Union, an obituary for a Los Angeles musician Thomas Filkovich. She signed it Mary Milakovich Pickard.
