I am researching a family for a friend and know that he has told me that his grandmother, Laura Hannah Crispin was born in 1862, the 2nd daughter of James and Ann(Luscombe) Crispin. James' wife died in Childbirth in 1871 and Laura's aunt Mary Ann Crispin(Stephens) brought her and sister Clara up until Laura married in April 1882.
She married Thomas E McGirr and they immediately went out west by train and boat to Manitoba. Thomas died in 1910 so Laura went to Winnipeg and started a boarding house. In 1927 her son's wife died so at the age of 65, she took on her grandson Robert McGirr. He became a physician and lives in Ontario. Laura died in 1948.
We knew the family had come from Devon and that James was born in Toronto. He is listed in 1871 as a farmer but he also started a tannery.
I think this is your family.
