A major undertaking. In a recent article in the War Correspondent (journal of the Crimean War Research Society)the author was trying to reconcile the number of casualties listed in various sources. In brief, he stated that one source stated 4602 died of wounds, while another 17,580 died of disease (but these numbers do not necessarily concur with other sources). The most complete casualty list to date is by Frank and Andrea Cook published under the title "Casualty Roll for the Crimea 1854 and 1855". It is a compilation of the despatches published in the London Gazette during the war. The lists are incomplete, however, full of misspellings, and do not list where the individuals were from . . . only their regiment and sometimes only a first intial and last name.
There may be another way to approach this problem, but I don't know it.
PS. you might join the Crimean War discussion group at Yahoo Groups and post the question there. There are many with more expertise than I there.
