Private John Fitzgibbon, regimental number 1091, 8th Hussars was born in Limerick, and was a harness maker prior to his enlistment on 23 June 1847. He embarked for the Crimea aboard the H. T. Echunga on 25 May 1854. He rode in the Charge of the Light Brigade and was killed in the Charge. He was awarded the Crimean Medal with Alma, Balaclava, and Sebastopol Clasps.
