In re George Pettit, 17th Lancers . . . I recently published a book listing everyone in the Light Brigade from 1854 to March 1856
I cannot find his name on the musters of the 17th Lancers during the war years . . . the closest thing I have is:

☼ Pettit, Pte Samuel, (966), 17th L (p291)
Bn in Sussex [56-4-24]. Enl 07-20-49 [56-4-24]. Prior Occ: Printer [56-4-24]. At Hampton Court 3rd Mstr [54-1-5].
At Sea, Constant., & Devna 1st to 3rd Mstrs [54-2-5]. To Scut 10-01-54 [54-4-5] & fr Scut 10-15-54 to England [54-
4-20]. Absent during Charge, enrt to England. Joined Dep Trps 01-24-55 [55D-1-5]. Inv 12-15-56 [56-4-24]. Not
on MRs, though embkd, app. never arrived in Crimea. LN shown as “Pettet” [54-1-5].

I also have the following individual, with a similar name which might have been misspelled:

Pevitt, Pte William George, (1828), 17th L
Enl 09-14-55 in London at age 19 [55D-3-7]. Dc by purch 01-24-56 showing Regt no. “1532” (sic)[ref Henry
Frederick Prall][56D-1-5]. DNE. Not on MRs. LN shown as “Pavitt” [55D-4-5], & Regt no. shown as “1532” [56-1-5,
24] on the same Mstr as Prall (1532).

If neither of these individuals are your relative, I doubt that he served during the Crimean War. Hope this helps.
