Birmingham News (AL) - January 18, 2000 Deceased Name: COX, SADIE BELLE COX, SADIE BELLE, 88, of Blountsville, AL, died Saturday, January 15, 2000 in Tallahassee, FL. Mrs. Cox was a lifelong resi- dent of Blount County, AL. She was born August 24, 1911 to Selden and Sally Wright of Liberty, AL. Mrs. Cox taught school at J. B. Pennington High School in Blountsville for 30 years after hav- ing taught at Susan Moore High School and other schools in Blount County. She was the coordinator for the Snead Junior College Extension Center at Blountsville. She was a member of Blountsville Baptist Church. She had been a member of the Blountsville Town Council and the Blountsville Water Board. Mrs. Cox was Blount Countys Citizen of the Year in 1989. She was a char- ter member of the Oneonta-Blount County Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of the Blountsville Cosmos Club and the Blountsville Garden Club. Upon her retirement from teaching school, Mrs. Cox helped organize the Retired Volunteer Pro- gram in Blount County, serving as president of the Blountsville Club for nine years; as president and secre- tary of the Blount County Organiza- tion and on the Birmingham Re- gional Planning Commission on Aging. Mrs. Cox is survived by her two devoted children and their families: George L. (Betty) Cox of Snead, AL, and Janice (Edward) Lyon of Talla- hassee, FL; and three grandsons, Kelly Cox of Auburn, AL, M. Chris Lyon and Stephen Lyon of Tallahas- see, FL. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Moffatt of Huntington, West Virginia in addition to numer- ous cousins. Mrs. Coxs service will be Tues- day, January 18, at 11:00 A.M. at Blountsville Baptist Church with burial at Antioch Baptist Church, Liberty, AL. Viewing was held on Monday night, January 17, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Blountsville Fu- neral Home. Blountsville Funeral Home is directing.
