Can you identify this John Joyce? In 1831 & 1850 he received land grants in Alabama. His will was recorded 30 Sep 1863 in Montgomery Co., AL. His wife, Margaret, and his sister, Martha Cone and her heirs were the only beneficiaries mentioned.
John Joyce b. about 1788 in North Carolina. Married Margaret "Peggy" Urquhart in Montgomery Co.,AL. 8 Apr 1841. Margaret was born in Cumberland Co.,NC about 1792.
Margaret was living in Coffee Co. AL.. in 1864 when her brother's estate was probated:
"Lands, to wit, the East 1/2 of the SE 1/4 and NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section 12 in Township 6 of Range 19~~ lying and being in the county of Coffee and State aforesaid. He further represents unto your honor that Sd. estate is solvent, and that Sd. land cannot be equitably divided among the heirs at law of the deceased, without a Sale thereof He further represents unto your Honor that the deceased left as his heirs at law the following persons, to wit, Margaret Joyce, a widow, Sister of Decd, of full age who resides in the county and State aforesaid."
Our research says nothing else about Margaret or any children of her marriage to John Joyce. Our Urquhart family was from Buies Creek, Cumberland Co.,NC before they migrated to GA after 1812 then into Montgomery Co.,AL about 1819.
Do any of you have Cone or Joyce links in Alabama that might aid in our search for Margaret and her family?
