Hopefully I can get a bit of help here, so long story short I have to do a term paper for my Sociology class about one branch of my family from before they came to the U.S. as far as what their social class was/what they did for work/etc. The only information I have is according to my father - Steven (or Stephen) Cole, and his wife (sister? I don't have a maiden name and only know her as a Cole) Abigail in Vermont in the early/mid 1700's, and supposedly he (or they) built the first school in the state. He (or his father) immigrated to the U.S. from somewhere in Ireland. I did find a few threads about a Stephen from Ireland, but in order to know if he is a many-greats grandfather (and thus having to find HIS father as well), I also have to find roughly 200 years of unknown ancestors starting from my grandfather (who passed away ~mid 1990s). The only information I can give for going back is the following: Calvin Charles Cole (Married Gladys Hall) b. early 1900s in Vermont (I think). 4 children: Dana (my father), Steven, Nancy, and Linda. His mother is (possibly, as she may be Gladys' mother) Hazel. My father also has a cousin Dana in the NY area and a cousin Ron in the Stockton, CA area, but I am unsure as to whether those are from the Cole or Hall side of the family. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. |
