I am searching for descendants of Abijah Coffin [1760-1793] and Elizabeth Robinson [1771-1804] so I can definitely connect them with my family.

I know that they were associated with Quakers in North Carolina. I have reviewed the GenForum discussions back to about 1999 and find occasional passing reference to the family but nothing that connects them directly to my line. I also find intriguing connections to various Quaker families (e.g., Mendenhall, Robinson, Stanfield) in North Carolina, Ohio, and Iowa. These have been derived from working with the Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, 1750-1930 CD from Ancestry.

I have located information that suggests Abijah and Elizabeth had two daughters – Mary [1792-??] and Priscilla [1793-1858]

I am trying to connect Priscilla Coffin to James Anderson [1786-1858], born in Delaware, James probably moved to North Carolina with a Quaker contingent and then on to Ohio in the early 1800s. The information that I have suggests that James and his great grandparents were associated with the Nicholites or New Quakers in the Delaware/Maryland area. James' father, John Anderson is presumed to be the son of James Anderson and Ann Clifton, both members of the Nicholites in the mid 1700s.

Priscilla and James were married in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio in 1809. All of their children were born in Ohio. Both Priscilla and James are buried in Ceasar Creek Cemetery, Greene County, Ohio.

Some information concerning James and Priscilla is derived from Portrait and Biographical Album of Greene and Clark Counties, Ohio : Containing Full Page Portraits and Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens of the County Together with Portraits and Biographies of all the Presidents of the United States (Salem, Mass. : Higginson Book Co., 1997, 1890). Excerpts from this book can be found on-line at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gen2/index.htm.

According to a family history prepared in part by my Grandfather, Haramont Nathaniel Anderson of Iowa, we directly descended from James and Priscilla. In our family information James and Priscilla had 8 children:

William Anderson [1810-1900] m. (1) Amarilla Dinsmore, (2) Lydia Ann Horney. born in Ohio, died in Iowa

Rhoda Anderson [1812- btwn 1880/1900] m. Nathan Mendenhall born, lived in Ohio

John Anderson [1813- btwn 1880/1900] m Charity Stanfield, born/lived in Ohio.

Joseph Anderson [1815 - ??] m. Matilda Stanfield, born in Ohio

Preston Anderson [1815 - ??] m. Eliza Janes, born in Ohio

*Harmon Anderson [1824-1885] m. Margaret Horney, born in Ohio, lived in Iowa, died there.

Abijah Coffin Anderson [1825-1911] m. Eliza Tilson, born in Ohio, lived in Iowa, died there.

James Robinson Anderson [1835 - ??] born in Ohio.

Note that the last two sons have the surnames of their grandparents (Coffin and Robinson)

I descend from Harmon Anderson and Elizabeth Horney:

Melvin Leewood [1852-1936]

Catherin Alice [1854-1858]

Lillian May [1856-1940]

James Francis [1860 -1940]

Anna Flora [1862-abt 1950]

Elizabeth Jane [1866-1952]

William Horney [1867-1875]

*Haramont Nathaniel [1876-1971]

I have documented Harmon Anderson's family through a variety of sources including his Civil War military record and application for an invalid pension from the federal government as compensation for injury (scurvy) suffered while imprisoned at Andersonville, Georgia (abut 6 months in 1864). What I am looking for is documentation, information that will confirm the link to Abijah Coffin and Elizabeth Robinson.

I am prepared to share what information I have with those who are interested.

Thank you

Richard Holmes Anderson
