The surname is STAPP. I've never found it spelled STIPP. The Coffeys are Irish. Edward was probably born in Ireland c1670 and transported to America c1690. You can find a pretty good Edward Coffey genealogy here: http://www.thecoffeycousins.org/Edward%20Coffey%20Project/index.htm
