There was a James Coffee in PA in 1722. Married a Margaret Zane. Margaret was dau of Robert Zane, an Irish Quaker immigrant to America c1660-1680, and who settled near Newton, NJ. James Coffee was from Philadelphia. He and Margaret were parents of at least one child - certainly more than one, but all I have shown - James Jr. Junior was father of Jonathan, b1778 and grandfather of George Wayne Coffee, b1816, and the gg-grandfather of William Mills Coffee, b1848. All were of Philadelphia. William Mills later moved his family to CA. There was also a James Coffe - unknown if the same one above - who was an indentured listed in contract between Daniel Mersender(sp), a Belfast, IR merchant and Capt. John Fowlwe of the ship "Bruerton" of Liverpool, for the delivery of indentured servants to Philadelphia; list dated 29 May 1729. There was a James Coffey, b 17 Aug 1759 in Chester Co., PA; married Mary Leeper 20 Dec 1836 in Bedford Co., TN. And, there was a James Coffee who married Rebecca Winterton on 28 May 1768 in Christ Church, Philadelphia. Hope some of this gives you a lead.
