My ancestors were Coffeys/Coffees from Wilkes Co. NC who moved to Gwinnett Co. GA by 1830. William Coffey, my g g g grandfather, only had one son, William Abner (Abner). William's brother Lewis Coffey also went to Gwinnett, and had several sons. A cousin Jesse Coffey went to Gwinnett and then on to Pickens Co. GA. These Coffeys were closely associated with Pendleys and Comptons/Crumptons. Lewis and William are on the census until 1850. Lewis died in 1853? and is buried in Old Suwanee Baptist Church Cemetery, Gwinnett Co. GA. William is in Calhoun Co. AL near Abner in 1860. One of Abner's daughters was a Nancy b. 1836 who married an Absalom Harris.William and Lewis also had a sister Nancy who m. Thomas Pendley.Common male names that were repeated generation after generation were: William, Lewis, Thomas, John, Ruben. Have you checked with the Coffey Cousins Clearinghouse? They have a great deal of information. A lot of information has been put on a website by Jack Coffee. Sandy Otos
