I am sure I am part Cherokee. My g grandfather Lewis Coffey/Coffee was the son of William Abner Coffey b. 1809 in Wilkes Co. NC. Abner's father was William Coffee, son of John Coffey and Mary Strange, grandson of James Coffey and Elizabeth Cleveland Coffey. What were the names of the sons and daughter? I find that my Coffeys used the same names over and over for the sons.(John, Thomas, William, Lewis, Levi, Elijah) I do have a Coffey son of Abner who disappears after the Civil War and isn't in Abner's will. He was Thomas Coffey who m. Hannah Andress. I believe they went to TX by 1870 and then nothing. I have a photo of my g grandfather Lewis. He had black hair, dark skin, blue eyes, high cheekbones, and 6 foot tall. He looks part Indian. My family hid their Indian heritage. I haven't been able to prove anything so far, but lots of my surnames are on Cherokee lists, and my sister was born with a small blue Mongolian spot on her tailbone - a sign of Indian blood according to the doctor.
