the Clift family in this book emmigrated before 1776 and came in originally under the name Clifton. They were Loyalists and returned to England at the outbreak of the Revolution. One son re-immigrated after he was grown and he changed his name to Clift because of the negative associations with his familie's Clifton name as Loyalists. Your family, coming much later, would not be found here. I am very sorry.
