Loren Hollis (alias John Wells) received an invalid's pension April 25, 1882 (application #447441 and certificate # 683442) . His widow Henrietta Hollis received a widows pension September 9, 1916. (application # 1071608 & certificate # 875430). Which she received in Wisconsin.

The index states service in 7th Independent Battery Wisconsin Light Artillery, as well as 33rd Independent Battery New York Light Artillery.
He died September 3, 1916 at Waupaca County, Wisconsin.


Loren Hollis born in the Town of Genate, Cayuga County, N.Y. 4 May 1830 and died at Wisconsin Veteran's Home (Grand Army Home for Veteran's today) at King, Waupaca County Wisconsin on 3 Sep 1916

Loren Hollis passed away at his room in Marston Hall on Sunday evening at the age of 86 years. The old gentleman had been confined to his bed for the past nine months. With his wife he came to the home about seventeen years ago. Prior to this time he resided at Tripp, Wis. Mr. Hollis enlisted in 1861, serving in the 7th Wis. Battery. After a year's service he was taken ill and was discharged. In 1863 he re-enlisted in the 23rd N.Y. Light Artillery, serving until the close of the war. He had the honor of being with Custer as lieutenant for six years. He lived for a time in town of Texas, Marathon County, Wisconsin. When a lad of but fifteen years of age he carried mail on a route in Texas by mule. Besides his wife the veteran is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Julia Duranso of Winchester, Vilas County, Wisconsin and Mrs. Clara Stafford of Minnesota, one son, John Loren of this place, also a sister and brother of Tripp, Wis. Funeral services were held at the Home chapel at one thirty on Tuesday, Rev. Peterson of Waupaca officiating. Interment in the Home Cemetery. Note: Loren Hollis was married to Henrietta Block on April 19, 1864 in Baltimore, Maryland.
