Hello, I just wanted to tell you that if you are looking for someone with the last name Chavis from that area of South Carolina then they are PeeDee Indian, not Cherokee. Many people have thought that. That was my family legend as well until I started doing research. The tribe was known as the Beaver Creek Band of PeeDee Indians; now they are simply the Beaver Creek Indians. This information might make your search easier. Also, the tribe has a lot information about the Chavis family. One John Berry Chavis, a former chief, has many records about the Chavis family.
