Hello John, James has been considered a son of Jane, who probably was a wife of William, son of Dempsey. This is speculation, of course as Jane (nor James), cannot be documented....so far. In any event, the lineage ends in Bladen County, NC when Dempsey was born, about c. 1765 The possibility that Dempsey was a son of John, son of Zachariah, son of Edmund Chancey, Jr....son of Edmund Chancey Sr., who died in Albermarle County NC (later Pasquotank Co. NC) Is very possible...however, correspondence with a researcher in London failed to associate Edmond Chancey Sr. with the one we are aware of...but, this possibility still exists...
