I am trying to find if there is any connection between the CHAFFEE families in Berkshire, Vermont with my SWEET families who were also in Berkshire at the same time. In the 1880 census, my great-grandfather, Stephen SWEET was living with the family of Albert and Nancy CHAFFEE; his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvanus and Sarah (SWEET) STEVENS, were the neighbors of Albert's son, Harvey, and may have been employed by him. A John CHAFFEE, aged 49, was living in the CURTIS/LACKEY/CUNNINGHAM home in Berkshire, too. Edna (CUNNINGHAM) LACKEY was my gggrandmother; her daughter, Ida, who was also a member of the household eventually married the Stephen SWEET who was living with the Albert CHAFFEE family. Was it a coincidence that all of these CHAFFEE families were intermingled with my SWEET families? I believe, from the IGI, that Albert CHAFFEE was the son of Reuben CHAFFEE, and John CHAFFEE may have been the son of Warren CHAFFEE. Thank you.
