Could be Amos, and it certainly seems like it SHOULD BE! I had run across this census record earlier, but it left me in a quandary. According to “The Chaffee Genealogy,” Amos and his wife Abigail Chaffee resided in Cazenovia after their 1809 marriage. And, significantly, the Town of Nelson was formed from the Town of Cazenovia (although a couple of years before their marriage). But Amos and Abigail couldn’t have had four children under the age of 10 in one year. Furthermore, the two adults are listed in the 26<45 age bracket, while Amos would have been only 24, and Abigail 25, at this time. So, were they just listed in the wrong age brackets, perhaps with a child of their own along with others who weren't theirs? Or had Amos or Abigail been widowed when they married and had had children by a previous spouse? If so, what became of those male childen (the female child could have been Louisa)? Needless to say, without further data, I'm left up in the air on this one.
