Herb, 8th of 8 children, was preceded by his parents, Reverend Elmer Spencer and Grace Lyman Chaffee, by 5 brothers, by 2 sisters(those names are not given), by his wife, Willa Smith Phillips and by his adopted daughter, Grace Lynn Marie; survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins. I am no relation to this family.
