Me & my big mouth. A few months back I posted a message that I believed that Kit's sons Charles Christopher and Christopher were in fact the same individuals...I WAS WRONG. After some much needed clarification from a Kit expert named Lee, I realized they were in fact two separate individuals.

I can't help but explain how I had made the error. 1) Kit did have a third son named Cristobal / Charles B. b 1850 d 1851 This was his eldest son. 2) Kit's third son Christopher Kit II 1858-1929 was married to Maria Guadalupe Richards. They divorced in 1910 but must have reconcilled because they had three children after 1910. 3) Charles Christopher 1861-1938 married for the first time at age 51 in 1912 to Mary Alice Gallagher. I assumed that since Christopher divorced 1910 and Charles married 1912, they were actually the same person...wrong. 4)Both Christopher and Charles had sons that were known as Kit III. 5) You never find Christopher and Charles living in the same vicitiy on a census. And Christopher often went by Kit adding further confusion.

Here is the corrected family of Kit Carson and his wife Maria Josefa Jaramillo:

3 i. Charles6 Carson, born May 1, 1850 in Taos, New Mexico; died May 21, 1851 in Taos, New Mexico.
