From ECHOES OF A HAPPY VALLEY by John Felix Hickerson: John was born in Brunswick County Virginia. He died in Sumter Dist SC in 1816. He was married to Eleanor Jones. They had 9 children--6 of whom are listed here . In a letter in 1819 written to Thomas Lenoir of NC by his brother- in-law Edmund Jones while traveling in SC is the following:"Matilda Lenor youngest daughter of Uncle John had married rich in Charleston. His youngest son Ransome had received first honors at the academy. All of his children are doing well. Patsy not married. Also he states that none of his decendants are known to be living in SC now." (Note: Patsy is a nickname for Martha)
p. 161 John married Eleanor Jones and lived on a plantation in Sumter County South Carolina. He also owned land in Claremont County. None of his descendants are known to be living now in Soluth Carolina although several old records at the courthouse in Sumter show land deeds (gifts) to some of his children and in the year of his death. His will mentions nine children, including the following six: Eleanor, Thomas, William Ransome, Jane, Martha A. and Mathilda A.
