Hi Joseph,

As Frederikke was listed as only living parent of Sophie at her marriage in 1931 I looked for a death for Nicolaj between their 1927 arrival in Canada and 1931.

I found his death in New Brunswick

You can view this for free at the NB archives online

He is listed under SMITH, NIKOLA J. NEILSON - Kings County
Date of death Nov. 25, 1928, age 46

It says he died in hospital of a kick in abdomen by horse causing hemorrhage into abdominal cavity
contributory - vomiting following operation , sepsis culminating in access

His wife is Frederikke Smith (too bad it doesn't show her maiden name)
His father is Neils Nikolaj Smith born Denmark
His mother is Sofia Smith, born Denmark

He was buried in Erb. Settlement, Kings Co. NB Nov. 27, 1928

I looked in same database (births, marriages, deaths) for birth of John Harald, and for marriage for Margarethe but did not find them.

I'm getting stuck on Dagny after finding her in border crossing

and Fred - have not found him at all after 1927 arrival

and Niels - same

and your John - same - do you know if any of them married and what their spouses names were?

also any children?

I also have not been able to find a death/burial for Frederikke - I am wondering if she stayed in Canada or went to US - but cannot find her their either so ??

Next, I thought I would try the Denmark Marriages and Denmark births databases at to see if I could find birth of any of the children of Nicolaj and Frederikke and also marriage of N & F.

I'm afraid I did not find any of them.

I also looked to see if there are any family trees on this family with hopefully some more info but did not find much. There is one for Margarethe which shows she died Dec. 11, 1995 in Rockville, Montgomery, Maryland
and there is such a death record at but no parents names shown, and no husband shown so not sure if it is right woman

all for now,

Carolyn L
