Hi Margaret,

I found a bit more - found the family in 1911 census with one more child.Surname is how it is shown in the index

Emile, age 26, laborer, roofer, born Ontario 1884(no month shown)

Elizabeth, age 23, wife born Feb. 1888, ON

Lily, age 7, daughter, born Sept. 1803 ON

Eva, age 3, daughter, born Nov. 1907

Clement, age 2, son born Feb. 1909 ON

so they have birth year wrong for Lily and place of birth wrong for Emile, but that is not uncommon in census records.

Next door
John, age 80, born Aug. 1830 Ireland

Mary, wife, age 46, born Oct. 1865 England

William, son, age 19, born April 1892 ON

There is another McDermott family on same page if you would like that info let me know -

I looked again for deaths of Alec and Philomene. I found one possible, listed as Philomene Dupuis, age 85 - died 1924 so bornn about 1839. She is shown as born Three Rivers, Quebec, and dying in Carleton Co. ON but being buried in Hull Quebec. Informant is her daughter Mrs.Virginie Walters.
Philomen's parents are shown as Laurent Alarie, born Quebec and Felicite Ferron

I know the surname of her father is not Adrien but could be a misspelling ??
I found the marriage for a Laurent Alaire and Felicite Ferron 1838 Yamachiche

In 1851 census this Philomene is with her parents in Quebec and shown born Yamachiche
I did not find a marriage for this Philomene though so still stuck there. Do you know if your grandfather Emile had a sister name Virginie ??

** I just found a marriage for a George Dupuis, age 25, married Nov. 23, 1905 Carleton Co. to Alexandrina Laurendeau - George's parents are shown as Luc Dupuis and Philomene Alarie- George born Hull, Quebec

Hemi Dupuis , age 29, married Malvina Lavoie April 2, 1902 Carleton Co. His parents Luc Dupuis and Philomene Alang (so another spelling)
In the image his name is Henri and he is born Three Rivers, Quebec, and Philomen's surname looks like Alary

I found burial for Luc Dupuis in Hull. He was buried March 16, 1896 and is shown as husband of Philomene Alaire. He died same day he was buried in the Parish of Saint Jean Baptiste of Ottawa at the age of 59.

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Luc Dupuis
Name:       Luc Dupuis
Event:       Enterrement (Burial)
Burial Year:       1886-1900
Burial Location:       Hull, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Notre-Dame-de-Grâce

1881 census has Luc, 42, Philomene 33, Josephine 16, Henry 15, Clarilda 6 and George 1, living in Hull City, Ottawa, Quebec

1871 has Luc, 40, Philomene 27, Josephine 6 and Henry 3

so quite a difference in ages from one census to the next for Luc

And I finally found a birth/baptism for one of the children - Joephine born 1865 in Trois-Rivieres to Luc Dupuis and Philomene Alare

AND marriage of Luc and Philomene who is listed in index as Phil

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Luc Dupins
Name:       Luc Dupins
[Lue Dupins]
Spouse:       Phil Alain
Event:       Mariage (Marriage)
Marriage Year:       1863
Marriage Location:       Trois-Rivières, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Immaculée-Conception, cathédrale l`Assomption

I can give you the details once I confirm that these are the correct parents for your Emile

AND I think I just found Emile with the same family as above.

Luke, age 51, lumberman, born Quebec

Phillomene, age 42, wife, born Quebec

Henry, age 22, son, clerk in harness shop, born Quebec

Emile, age 7, son, born Quebec

George, age 11, son, born Quebec

Cara, age 17, daughter, born Quebec

this matches with names from 1881 - not all ages exact but close enough I think.

Still have not found his baptism though. Do you have an exact birth date for him?
I know names and spelling are not same in all the records but that is very common.
