JOHN PALMER ALLEN (s/o? John and Ellen (Sawyer) Allen) b. ca 1816, m. by the Rev. Dr. Brooke 4OCT1860 MARY ANNE (CARRIGAN) CARR (b. ca. 1815-26 (ca. 1831?), d. Rusagonis, Sunbury Co., NB 10APR1890 age 65 years; m 1st John Carr.)
When married, John was from Blissville Parish, Sunbury Co., NB and Mrs. Mary Anne Carr was from Lincoln Parish.
In Lincoln Parish, Sunbury Co., NB in 1871 there were John Allen (55), Mary A. (45) and children: Angeline (9). Thomas (7) and 'Adah' M. (6.) By 1881, Mary Allan (50), is a widow living with presumably a son by her 1st marriage, Bedford 'Karr' (23.) Also in the household are Hamilton Karr (30) and John Karr (28.) John is indicated as being married, but no wife is evident. There are also Evangeline Allan (19), Thos Allan (17) and Ada Allan (16.)
By 1892, when he married Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, York Co., NB Lean McKnight, Bedford had moved to Menominee, Michigan. He had returned to his home in Geary, Sunbury Co. for the wedding after several years there. Bedford is given as the s/o John and Mary Ann (Gates) Carr, as are Hamilton, John, Elizabeth Jane and Isaiah Carr. This would appear to refer to the family in Lincoln Parish in 1851:

Carr John                     M       Husband       25       Irish                            June 1835
Carr Hampton              M       Son               4       British American       By birth
Carr Mary D.              F       Wife              25       British American       By birth
Carr John H.              M       Son               3       British American       By birth
Corrigan Susannah       F                     10       British American       By birth sister-in-law

Next door lived Mark Carr (b. NB ca. 1811), with a wife, Martha Carr (b. Ireland ca. 1811, arrived JUN1835 and in the household a John Carr b. Ireland ca. 1788, arrived JUN1835. At first glance, it might seem that Mark and the younger John were brothers except that Mark, in that case, should be Irish, b. Ireland and arrived JUN1835. Possibly he actually was b. Ireland, etc. as the enumerator use 'do.' (ditto) in that column and may have carried it one row too far. In any case, it appears that Mary's maiden name was Corrigan or Carrigan and not Gates.

2. THOMAS ANDREW ALLEN b. ca. 1864
3. ADA MELVINA ALLEN b. Rusagonis, Sunbury Co., NB 8AUG1865 (ca. 1865)
There is a birth record for Ada Melvina Allan, d/o John Palmer and Mary Ann (Carrigan) Allan. It states that John was a ship builder, and was attested to in 1941 by Thomas Andrew Allan of Freeport, Cumberland Co., Maine. her brother; four years her senior.
