I just came across your posts. Ruth Mather, married to James Frederick Mather (Fred), was my maternal grandmother who died in my parents' (George and Frederica Sweet) house in 1958. Fred was one of 6 children born to RA Mather: Annie Eva, John Douglas (Jack), Robert Fenton, Allan Cameron, Fred and Marjorie.
The other Ruth was the second wife to Fenton Mather, his first wife, Alice Ida, having died in the flu epidemic of 1918.
Ruth and Fed were married on 20 October 1919. My grandmother's maiden name was Mather (pronounced with a short "a" (as in "father"). She was born in England but moved to Providence, Rhode Island where she married her first husband, Walter Wells Griffith who died in 1917. I was aware that she had travelled to Bermuda on several occasions but not that she may have been married on board. I have been unable, to date, to track down a marriage certificate. Any help you can give me on this would be great.
I have a pretty comprehensive record of this family if you are interested. I would also be interested to know your relationship to the Mather clan.
