Thanks to all who responded so quickly, before I could even add a postscript.
I should have listed sources where I have found already found John DeWitt Snodgrass:
1880 Census of Oregon (La Grande, his birth place)
1901 Census of Canada
1899-1900 "Henderson's British Columbia gazetteer and directory and mining companies, for 1899-1900"
1900-1901 "Henderson's British Columbia gazetteer and directory and mining companies, for 1900-1901"
1907 British Columbia Death Index,
1907 brief notice of death in "La Grande (OR) Observer"
tombstone in Hillcrest Cemetery, La Grande, OR
His wife appears in the 1910 census back in La Grande along with one son. She is widowed and has given birth to three children of whom one survives.
She moved to Bend, Oregon, later in the decade, remarried, and lost that husband within a year. Her son married, had a stillborn child, and divorced. She remarried. He remarried. He had two children and divorced again, with his mother getting custody of the kids. Her third husband died. She died in 1940.
