Okay, never mind about Robert Patterson! He is being discussed in multiple other threads. You'll now want to post your new information, brought by volunteers, in each of the multiple threads so that all the volunteers in all the threads have the research updates, same as you do. Otherwise volunteers have to keep checking your posting history and researching you and your posts, spending time that could be spent researching your questions!

You also have started threads on some of Robert Patterson's children:

*Margaret Patterson who married Seth Clay, lived in Omaha
*Elizabeth Patterson who married Henry Wetmore
*John Patterson whom you found in Schuyler County, ILL in 1880
*William Patterson whom you found in Schuyler County, ILL in 1880
*Anna Patterson who married William Bailey in Atlantic, Cass, Iowa in 1900

One way to handle the confusion and the duplication of research that is inherent in multiple threads is to alert volunteers in each forum about the other threads in other forums, and possibly to suggest one thread as the "central" thread.

Believe me I recognize that this is a common problem. Most of us have been in this same situation, so please don't feel bad about it.

Here's a transcription of that 1940 census for J. Clay, which is in the realm of "public information." Transcriptions are awesome, as they add information that is inadvertently omitted from a narrative - in this case the birth year and birth place of J. Clay's parents.

Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska
Living with Gillespies: John H 66, Mable W 52, Jack 30, and Robert 16
Russell Clay 27, son-in-law, born about 1913 in Nebraska
Phyllis Clay 23, daughter, born about 1917 in Nebraska
Jaqueline Clay age 1

You have been making excellent progress - bravo! I hope you keep at it and fill in all the blanks.

All best wishes!
