I just saw your post, and realize you posted
in Oct., 2011 so I hope you see my reply. I
did contact the newspaper and never got a reply.
Here is where and when Otis Smith was born.
13 OCT 1844 in Logan Co., Ohio but I did find
a whole boatload of info on him at Rootsweb.
I guess where the break is, in the info I have,
is that my Great Great Grandparents were William
Otis and Sarah Olive Smith, however I don't have
any information passed down from my older family
members, on this couple, except I do have two
One picture I wanted to upload at findagrave.com
for Otis Smith, but because I don't have conclusive
info, that the Man in the photo is Otis Smith, the
Medal of Honor Recipient, they won't put it on his
memorial page, apparently.
Here is what is interesting, Otis Smith is
buried beside his Wife Sarah, in the Arroyo
Grande Cemetery,in CA. Well, this cemetery
has family members of mine on both sides
of my Dad's family that go back generations.
Sarah's middle name of Olive is the same as
one of my Great Aunt's middle names.
The photo I mentioned of William Otis Smith,
in his wheelchair, with what looks like a
uniform on, was taken on or about 1921
or 22, at what looks like a veteran's home.
Otis W. Smith was at a veteran's home in
Yountsville, CA and died March 1923.
The parallels are uncanny. I knew my Great
Grandmother Mary Smith Petker very well, and
She never spoke of her parents, let alone her
Father being a Medal Of Honor recipient.
