I am researching a family connection for a Denis Burke who came from Skeaghanore outside Ballydehob. Born on 26 September 1888, his father was Daniel Burke and his mother Ellen. He traveled to Boston on the steamship Cymric in April 1910. In January 1917, he gained his US Citizenship and was later that year drafted into the US Army and went to France serving with the 319th Field Artillery Regiment in the 82nd Infantry Division. He was at that time living at Beacham St, Everett, MA. After his return from France in May 1919, he applied for a passport in order to return to Ireland to visit his parents. I'm not sure that he made that trip but in 1922 what appears to be his two sisters, Catherine and Mary travelled to stay with him. In 1928 he received his war service testimonial at which time he was living at Thorndike St, Everett, MA near Boston. He remained at that address until at least 1942 when he registered for another draft, this time at age 54. He was living with a Marie Burke whom I guess was his wife. At all times he was employed as a laborour and was employed by "City Hall" in 1942. I would be delighted to learn more about this Denis Burke and if he had any family and what became of him. thanks for your time Denis Burke Dublin |
