The younger Ben Bratcher you mention might be the one who interests me. My interest, however, is peripheral, as you will see. What made me post my original query was a photograph which came down through my mother's family and which I recently found. It is a formal photo, showing a young man, and on it is (handwritten) "Ben Bratcher. Ettie's boy friend." Ettie was Sarah Henrietta Smith (1861-1944), my great-grandmother. At some point, she and Ben must have parted company, since she ended up marrying Samuel Gaston Hink in Butler, Missouri, September 1884. The photo was taken by Hagedorn & Suden, listed as being in Jefferson City and Butler, Mo. If you are interested, I can try and make a digital copy of the photo and send it to you; you could then post it on the forum here, if you wish. Alan Latta |
