The following partial Genealogy on the Bosley family was compiled and published by my Great Grandmother Carrie Lou Bosley and her sister Bessie Ellen Bosley who at that time William Stansbury Bosley was their grandfather. This work is not without errors and I am in the process of correcting as many as I can. One of the areas in question is the Orrick connection as in who is the father of Sarah Ann Orrick. Dr. John Gorsuch, born 1600, Rector of Walkeholme, co. Herts, murdered 1642 (son of Daniel Gorsuch (1575-1638) Merchant of London, son of William Gorsuch, born 1550 and his wife Alice Hall.) Ralph de Nevill, Earl of Westmoreland, K. G., died 1425, married second, about 1379, Joan Beaufort, died 1440, daughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, K. William de Vivonia de Fortibus married Maud Ferrers of Kyme. 22. Cecily Vivonia married John de Beauchamp, who died in 1283. In the 5th of King Edward I he was made governor of the Castles of Caermerdin and Cardigan. Their son 21. John de Beauchamp took part in the wars of Scotland and soon after, in the 14th of King Edward II, he succeeded to the extensive landed possessions of his mother in cos. Dorset, Wilts, Surrey and Cambridge. Two years afterward he was made governor of the Castle of Bridgewater. He died in the year 1336. 20. William de Beauchamp married and had 19. Elizabeth (Mary) Bodulgate married Richard Woodville (Wydville) died 1441, son of John and grandson of Richard Woodville and his wife Elizabeth Lyons. 17. Richard Woodville 0f Grafton, Earl Rivers, K. G., governor of the Tower of London, knighted in 1426, was a great warrior on the Lancastrian side. He was Treasurer of the Exchequer and afterward Lord High Constable of England for life. In 1436 he married Jacqueline of Luxembourg, born 1415, died 1472, also of royal descent 16. Elizabeth Woodville, died 1492, married Sir John Grey, 2d Baron Ferrers of Groby, son of Sir Edward Grey and his wife Elizabeth Ferrers. Sir John was born in 1435 and was slain at the Battle of St. Albans on the Lancastrian side, 17 February 1460. They had: (15) Thomas Grey, K. G., as above married 15 Cecily Bonville. 14. Eleanor (Elizabeth) Grey married Sir John Arundel, K. B., of Lanherne, co. Cornwall, eldest son of Sir Thomas Arundel, K. B., and his wife Catherine Dynham. 13. Sir Thomas Arundel, K. B., beheaded 26 February 1552, married Lady Margaret Howard, a sister of Queen Catherine and a first cousin of Queen Anne Boleyn. The Houses of Howard and Arundel were by no means peaceful clans. They were definitely with the King or against him, most of the time against him, which was true of Sir Thomas Arundel. 12. Sir Matthew Arundel of Wardour, who fled to the Continent, assumed the maiden name of his mother, wandered over Europe and died there in 1598, having married Margaret, daughter of Sir Henry Willoughby of Wollaton, co. Nottingham. 11. Sir Thomas Arundel "Howard," elder son, Ist Baron Arundel of Wardour, passed his early life on the Continent and served in the Imperial Hungarian Army against the Turks during the latter part of the 16th Century. He distinguished himself in battle, and as a reward for his bravery Rudolph 11, Emperor of Germany, created him a Count of the Holy Roman Empire. The patent of creation, dated Prague 14 December 1593, conferred the title upon "you, Thomas, and all and every one of your children, heirs and legitimate descendants of both sexes already born or that ever hereafter shall be born." Thus the warrant conferred the title not only on the eldest son but also on every son and daughter and their descendants. 2728 WURTS' MAGNA CHARTA Sir Thomas Arundel Howard died 7 November 1639, having married second, I July 1608, Ann Philipson, died 28 June 1637, daughter of Miles Philipson and his wife Barbara Sandys. Being at odds with his noble kinsmen, he continued to use the surname Howard as his father had done. Harry W. Newman, in his Ancestry of Matthew Howard, relates how their eldest son 10. Matthew Arundel-Howard, the emigrant, born in the year 1609 in "Wardour Castle," the ancient castle of the Arundels, died before 1659. He came to Virginia about 1630 and settled in Lower Norfolk County. In 1649 he removed to Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where he was a large landowner. He married about 1625 Ann, daughter of Richard Hall, a Virginia merchant. 9. Mary Howard, died 1721, married Major General John Hammond. 8. Col. Thomas Hammond, born about 1666, was of Arundel, Cecil and Baltimore Counties, and owned land called "Addition" in Maryland. He was Captain of Troop of horses in 1694; appointed in Maryland as Commissioner in 1694; Member of Assembly from 1701 to 1704 and in 1712 and 1714; Burgess of Baltimore from 1711 to 1722. He married in 1689 Rebecca, widow of Thomas Lightfoot and daughter of John Larkin of Anne Arundel County, a large landowner on the Severn. They had 7. Susannah Hammond, who married John Orrick of Morley Choice, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, born 1685 died 1749, son of James Orrick. In Nesbit's Heraldry, Volume II, is the following comment: Simon de Orrock is without question the ancestor of the House of Orrock of that ilk in the county of Fife, reputed an ancient family and an honorable one. Sir Simon de Orrock's name is inscribed upon the Ragman's Roll, which for antiquity is the rival of the British Domesday Book. The name of Orrick or Orrock is said to have originated from the rock upon that part of the Fife coast where lay the large estate of Orrock. A history of the Orrocks of Scotland, whose arms continue to be borne by the Orricks of America, takes us back to the 13th Century. CHAPTER 288 - PAULLEY-GRAHAM 2729 James Orrick or Orrouch, as his name is quaintly spelled by the scrivener who wrote his Will, appears in the Colony of Maryland about 1650. He was the father of John Orrick, who married No. 7 Susanna Hammond. 6. Capt. Nicholas Orrick of Baltimore Maryland, born 1 May 1725, died I February 1781. He served with distinction as Captain of the Baltimore Company Troops in the War for Independence. He was a zealous and liberal Churchman and for many years was a Vestryman of Old St. Thomas Garrison Forrest. Nicholas married first Hannah Cromwell, born I April 1729, died 2 December 1762, daughter of Capt. John Cromwell and his wife Hannah Rattenburg. He married second, 16 March 1769, Mary Bell. 5. John Orrick, born at Baltimoce 30 October 1753, died 4 November 1810, married Sarah Merryman, born 15 September 1754, died 5 June 1835. 4. He was overseas for nine months. Mrs. Paulley attended Teachers' College at Kirksville, Missouri, is a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority, the Montgomery City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a promoter for that organization in 1947 in Casper, Wyoming. She was President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy from 1941 to 1944. Their two sons: (a)        Byron Rosewell Paulley, Jr., born at Casper, Wyoming, 7 September 1924, married 10 June 1950 Marjorie Davis Mathews, who was born 27 August 1930. He served in World War 11 as Corporal; anti-aircraft radar technician, infantry; was six months in Okinawa. He attended State Teachers' College, San Diego, California, and Boston University. Their two daughters are: Sandra joy Paulley, born at Wollaston, Massachusetts, 27 March, 1952, and Susan Lee Paulley, born at Casper, Wyoming, 12 February 1954. Both are members Of Children of the American Revolution and Children of the Confederacy. (b)        Don Bosley Paulley, born at Casper, Wyoming, 9 July 1929, married at St. Louis, Missouri, 9 December 1951, Helen Mary Witt of St. Louis, who was born 27 September 1932. He at- CHAPTER 288 - PAULLEY-GRAHAM 2731 tended Casper junior College and is a graduate of Woodbury College, Los Angeles, California. He served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. Their four children are: Donna Marie Paulley, born at Spokane, Washington, 11 April 1953; Denise Ellen Paulley, born at Casper 19 January 1955, members of Children of the Confederacy and Children of the American Revolution; Don Bosley Paulley, Jr., born at Casper 27 September 1956, a member of Children of the Confederacy; and Dennis William Paulley, born 27 September 1959.
