Yes, I too am aware of the various spellings of this name. Sarah Deming of the Town of Manchester, Bennington County, VT, was the daughter of Eliakim Deming born August 1, 1741, and Hannah born in about 1847. Hannah died on April 10, 1791. Eliakim died on April 9, 1813. They are buried at the Factory Point Cemetery of Manchester. Eliakim's second wife was Mary Ann/Marian/Marion (again, varioius spellings). He drafted an Indenture in 1811 whereby Nathan Smith was care for his wife & farm following his death. (Nathan moved to Ohio in 1812.) The Blakesly family then cared for the widow. Later Mary Ann drafted an Indenture whereby Abraham Smith was to care for her and the farm until the time of her death. If you have the time and information, I would like to discuss the connection between the Smith Brothers and the Deming family. Thank you for your recent response. MaryLu in Minnesota |
