I might have posted this before a long time ago, but I am goign to post this query again.
It has been said that William Franklin Goedert and a 3 to 4 siblings, possible 3 brothers, came through Canada and ended up in Minnesota. Michael may have went to Wisconsin for a short time becuase he was in the Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. William was in the Minnesota Cavalry during the Civil War.
After the Civil War, William moved to Missouri, where my family starts - he married there.
Micahel also later moved to Minnesota at some point and ended up in the Soliders Home in Minnesota.
I am trying to track down any possible leads with the other Goedert's, especially in the Minnesota region.
They, William, Micahel and "the ohters", came from the
Belgium/Luxembourg/Alsace-Lorraine region. I say all of these becuase the family has said the Alsace part, but
the census records state Belgium one time and Luxembourg another, and Germany most of the time.
I know how volatile this region was and how borders quickly changed at times.
I am hoping that one of you Goedert's, or maybe a non-Goedert, might have more information to help me in my search. I have basically hit a dead end with William and Micahel. Their service records do not state their parents names. And since they joined the military then they were automatically naturalized.
I would appreciate any help in any way!! :-)
