John Stoffel The community was saddened by the death of John Stoffel, who passed away at his home in Cooks Valley on Friday evening. He underwent an operation a year ago at the Chippewa hospital, from which he never fully recovered and he has been in poor health for the past year. John Stoffel was born in Belgium, May 11, 1866, and came to America with his parents at the age of two years. For several years the family lived in the town of Tilden, where he was united in marriage to Theresa Meinen, Oct 13, 1896. In 1912 he sold his farm to Gust Kelm and purchased the Z. C. Willis farm in Cooks Valley, where he has since resided. Mr. Stoffel is survived by his wife and ten children, as follows: William of Popple Creek, Leo of Eagle Point, Adolph, Eugene, Joseph, Anna, George, Peter, Norbert and Carl all living at home. He is survived by two brothers Peter of Woodmohr and Nick of Tilden, and five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Bowe, Mrs. Sebastian Dachel, Mr. Peter Huntz, Mrs. Peter Meinen and Mrs. Jos. Smetana Sr. The funeral was held on Tuesday morning at St. John the Baptist church in Cooks Valley, Rev. Chas. Rudolph officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Those from a distance who were here for the funeral: Norbert Dachel, Wisconsin Rapids; William Meinen, Milwaukee; Albert Bowe of Lafayette; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Bowe of Chippewa Falls and several other relatives and friends from Tilden, Wheaton, Bloomer and other surrounding points. (Printed in the Bloomer Advance Thursday April 4, 1929 Edition)
