http://belgium.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ - this is probably a good place to start. http://stadsarchief.antwerpen.be/unrestricted/Default.aspx - this is the Antwerp archives site. http://geneaknowhow.net/digi/resources.html - has lists of what is available online (not much). The biggest possible hurdle you will run into is if the records of the Smeesters are not in Antwerp proper but some place on the outskirts of Antwerp which has separate records. So I would first contact the archives and ask what they have for Custom House officers.
