Benjamin Barbee b ca 1760 in Virginia served in the Rev War (I have muster roll records), was married to a Mary and moved to Butler County, Ohio. He died Feb 1815. His will was written Dec 1814 (I have a copy), it was presented by wife to court April 1815 and the inventory of his goods was done 1 year after death, Feb 1816 (I have copy of the listing). Benjamin and Mary had 10 children; 5 sons and 5 daughters. I have done extensive research in past years on this family. Until recently, I have not looked at this particular line and after a question presented to me - I decided to do some online studies. I am very saddened to say, that the family trees that are available for public record are incorrect - listing his parents as John and Sarah Patterson Barbee and his death date of 1825. This is absolutely false. How does one correct such inaccuracies? I have studied very early Butler County, Ohio, records (I live in Butler County about 10 miles from where the family first lived.) I have land records, and early tax records, plus census records. I have visited what was the farm land but now that entire area has been developed and is housing development. Nothing of old road even exits. I never found a burial site for Benjamin, and just figure he was buried on the farm. His land was 57 acreas, which he officially purchased in 1814 (I have the deed). His son John (my line) inherited the 57 acres in 1816. I have a township map of 1835 which shows John Barbee and the 57 acres. In all the research, I have never found maiden name of Mary, however, these family trees that are out there say she is Mary Holloway (sp Hallaway, etc). Does someone have proof? I have some research on each of Benjamin's children, some lines more extensive than others. I can assist with questions, but PLEASE don't take what is out there as true. Sharon Ware |
