There's been a very interesting development in the Balch Y-DNA Project. A descendant of John R. Balch b. 1810 in TN or KY has had a 12 marker DNA match with a Balch gentleman in England who is also in the Family Tree DNA database.

We have to be careful with 12 marker matches as they can be false positives, but I'm trying to learn if the gentleman in England has tested to more markers that just haven't been reported yet. If this match is indeed real, then this U.S. line may be able to learn its roots in England and perhaps also find its earlier colonial roots in the U.S.

This is the Balch involved in this match here in the U.S.:

1850 United States Federal Census > Tennessee > Sumner > District 11

John Balch 39 TN (or KY)
Sophia 36 TN
Catherine 17 TN
Elizabeth 15 TN
William 13 TN
Alfred 11 TN
Eliza 9 TN
Alfred 7 TN
Nancy 5 TN
John 1 TN

The other two lines in the project tested to date not related to this match have the following Most Distant Ancestors:

Benjamin Balchowsky b. 1861 Lithuania d. Chicago

Rev. Hezekiah Balch b. 1741 Harford Co., MD

If anyone is interested in joining the project, please let me know.
